Last night's dream was one of those with such beautiful visuals and just enough hint at a larger plotline that it deserves to be remembered.
It all took place on a ship. Wooden, the kind that sails on the ocean, only it was entirely closed in from the elements -- so maybe it was more of an ark. The captain of this ship... I thought of him as Robin Hood. He did look a lot like Robin from the recent Doctor Who episode.
I was a recent addition to his crew. On the ship, we fought a monster who looked like a man and who could detach his limbs without hurting himself. Once that business was done, it was decided that we had enough treasure accumulated to head out to our base. Which was out in space.
I stood at the back of the ship, looking out one of the large windows. Robin came to speak to me. He had acknowledged me as part of the crew, but we'd never spoken privately before.
"Boy," he addressed me, sounding quietly amused, "we are riding past massive waves, out into the stars -- and you look back the way we came?"
I thought for a second about how to answer.
"I would rather see a different view of where we've been. And remember it."
He seemed to understand, and left me. I watched the waves until, in a flash that must have been faster-than-light travel, I was looking out onto deep space. Then I turned around and started looking out the forward-facing windows.
We flew past a bronze-colored space station, a circular structure with a gyroscope spinning slowly around it. I knew we were not far from where we needed to be...
